SmartName is a paid AI naming service with three one-time plans: Light at $39 for 10 names, Standard at $79 for 25, and Premium at $119 for 40. Every name in every plan comes with its meaning, a tagline and a written case for it. There is no subscription; one payment buys one delivery.
The AI generates about 50 candidates along your brief, machine-checks them, and delivers the 10 that survive. Small enough to choose from in one sitting.
25 names across 10 distinct directions, generated on Anthropic's top model. Seeing the same brief taken ten different ways is usually how people discover what they actually want.
The widest spread we offer: 40 names in 20 directions, selected from up to 200 candidates. Delivered by e-mail as well as on screen, so you can close the page and read it when you are ready.
Prices in US dollars. Payment is taken at checkout by Paddle (card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay). Any applicable sales tax or VAT is shown before you pay.

From the same brief, SmartName deliberately takes the name in several different directions. Each one is a distinct way of thinking about what the name should do.
| Direction | Approach | Names it produces |
|---|---|---|
| Grain and fire | From the raw materials and the oven | Stone Hearth / Rye & Ember / The Proving Room |
| Local landmark | From the street, the hill, the river | Harbourside Loaf / Brandon Hill Bakery |
| Old English, plain | From words that sound like they have always been there | Fold / Crumb & Crust / Millers |
More directions means more angles you would not have thought of. With 20 directions you are choosing between twenty ways of thinking, not forty variations of one.
The bakery names above are illustrative examples, not delivered work.
Every name with its direction, its tagline and a one-line origin, laid out so you can scan the whole set at once. Star the ones you like and the stars stay with your delivery.
What the name means, where it comes from, what it says to your customers, how it reads on a sign and in a URL, and why it belongs to its direction. Once you choose, this becomes the story on your About page.
Take the whole set away as a PDF to print and share with a partner, or as a CSV to sort in a spreadsheet. Premium deliveries are also sent to your e-mail address, and members can reopen any delivery from their My page.
Pick Light, Standard or Premium above. Payment is taken at checkout by Paddle, using a card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. One payment, one delivery.
What you are naming, your trade, your customers, your location, the tone you want, words to include or avoid, competitors to steer clear of. Mostly multiple choice; about 10 minutes.
It pulls real names in your trade from 900,000+ businesses, counts how they are built, sets the directions, generates 50 to 200 candidates, machine-checks them against your rules, selects the best, and writes the case for each one.
Light in about 2 minutes and Standard in about 5, on screen. Premium in about 7, by e-mail as well, so you can close the page. Download the set as PDF or CSV and take your time deciding.
There are three plans, each a single payment in US dollars: Light at $39 for 10 names in 5 directions, Standard at $79 for 25 names in 10 directions, and Premium at $119 for 40 names in 20 directions. One payment buys one delivery. There is no subscription, no renewal and nothing to cancel, and every name in every plan comes with its meaning, a tagline and a written case of roughly 150 words at no extra charge.
Free generators output names. SmartName delivers names with the reasoning. Before writing, it reads live statistics from over 900,000 real business names in English-speaking countries to see how names in your trade are actually built, then sets 5 to 20 distinct directions. A machine check rejects any candidate that breaks your rules: words to avoid, words that must appear, competitors, offensive meanings in seven languages and well-known brands. Every surviving name is delivered with its meaning, a tagline and a roughly 150-word case for it. You get the case for each name, not just the name.
From real names. For every order SmartName pulls businesses in your trade from a live set of over 900,000 real business names across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Ireland, drawn from map data, and counts how those names are built: how many words, whether the trade word comes first or last, which words are common and which are rising. Those counts set the directions, so the structure of your names matches what customers in your trade already recognise. Your own preferences always lead; if you want something the market does not usually do, we follow you and add one direction showing the common form.
No. SmartName delivers name candidates and the reasoning behind them; it does not perform trademark searches or company-register checks, and nothing we deliver is a legal clearance. Before committing to a name, search it with the USPTO in the United States, the UK Intellectual Property Office, CIPO in Canada, IP Australia, or your national office, and check your local company register. We do reject candidates that are identical to well-known brands, but that screen is a courtesy, not a substitute for a proper search.
Anthropic's Claude. The Light plan runs on the current Claude Opus (Opus 5.5), and the Standard and Premium plans run on Anthropic's top model, Claude Fable 5.1. When a newer version is released we test it, and switch automatically once it passes. The exact model in use for each plan is shown live on this page and on the quality page, so you always know what wrote your names.
Because each order does real work that costs real money. Behind one delivery, the system reads your 18 answers, pulls and counts the real names of your trade, designs 5 to 20 directions, generates and machine-checks 50 to 200 candidates, selects the best 10 to 40, and writes a meaning, a tagline and a roughly 150-word case for every one of them on Anthropic's top models. A naming agency charges thousands of dollars and takes weeks for a similar deliverable. SmartName does it in minutes for $39 to $119.
The plans are designed to give you range, not a single guess. Standard spreads 25 names across 10 distinct directions and Premium spreads 40 across 20, so you see the same brief approached from many angles, and most customers find their name or the direction that leads to it. If you want another round, a new order avoids the names you have already received when you are logged in as a member. Because the full cost is incurred when generation starts, we cannot refund an order on taste, so please read the plan details and the example names before you buy.
Yes, all of them. The questionnaire asks what you are naming, and the directions and the written case are shaped accordingly: a company name is judged on how it reads on a registration and in an e-mail signature, a shop name on how it reads on a sign and in a local search, a product or app name on how it sits next to competitors on a shelf or in an app store. The 18 questions take about 10 minutes and cover your trade, your customers, your location, the tone you want, words to include or avoid, and competitors to steer clear of.
Once generation has started there are no refunds, because the entire cost of an order is incurred at that moment. The one exception is a failure on our side: if our system fails to generate or display your names, you choose between a free regeneration and a full refund. Payments are handled by Paddle, which accepts major cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and refunds are returned to the original payment method. The full policy is on the refund page.
Light takes about 2 minutes, Standard about 5 and Premium about 7, counted from the moment you submit the questionnaire. Light and Standard appear on screen when ready. Premium is delivered by e-mail as well, so you can close the page and come back to it. If you create a free member account, every delivery is also kept in your My page, where you can reopen it, star the names you like, and download the set as a PDF or CSV.

Not sure which plan? Start with Standard. Twenty-five names in ten directions is usually enough to see where you are going.
